Com Ed Status Update - May 5, 2017

As a result of a series of electrical system outages experienced by the Village last summer, ComEd developed a three phase capital improvement plan to improve system reliability within La Grange.

The most immediate project involved the replacement of two 34 kV lines under Cossitt Avenue west of Tilden Avenue to Gilbert Avenue with a new line through Western Springs to backfeed La Grange in the event of an interruption of power supplied from the east.  This work was completed in November, 2016.

ComEd has also reviewed other 34 kV lines serving La Grange and reviewed the circuits and equipment sourcing the commercial business district. As a result of these efforts, ComEd identified a number of system enhancements to improve reliability including the replacement of cables, insulators, disconnects and fuses as well as station enhancements.  This work is expected to be completed by summer, 2017.

ComEd is currently in the process of replacing sections of cable, poles and other system components in specific sections of the Village.  This work is expected to be completed in May, 2017.  Areas where work is planned include:

Rear lots between Waiola Ave. & Spring Ave. from Maple Ave. to 54th St.

  • Rear/front/side lots along Maple Ave. between Waiola Ave. and Catherine Ave.
  • North side of Maple Ave. from Spring Ave. to LaGrange Rd.
  • Rear lots between Madison Ave. and LaGrange Rd. between 51st & 53rd Streets.
  • Rear lots between LaGrange Rd. and 6th Ave., north of Elm Ave.
  • Rear lots between LaGrange Rd. and 6th Ave., between Goodman Ave. & 47th Street.
  • North side of 48th Street from LaGrange Rd. to 8th Ave.
  • Rear lots between S. La Grange Rd & S. 6th Ave between W. Maple Ave & E Goodman Ave.
  • Rear lots between S. 6th Ave & S. 7th Ave between 49th St. & 50th St.
  • Rear lots between S. Madison Ave & S. La Grange Rd between 49th St & 51st St.

Residents directly impacted by the work will receive notification from ComEd in advance.  While some temporary outages are anticipated in order to perform the work, ComEd is working to minimize the duration of outages whenever possible and will provide customer notification as the work progresses.  Tree trimming may also be required in certain cases.

The Village thanks residents and business owners for their continued patience.  If you have any questions regarding the work, please contact ComEd’s Project Support Team at 630-576-6200.  If you experience a power outage, please call ComEd at 1-800-EDISON-1.  In the event of an emergency, please call 9-1-1.
