Incorporated in 1879, La Grange is a stable, mature community of 15,608 residents, located in Chicago's western suburbs. The Village's west central Cook County Location allows its residents access to Chicago's downtown amenities as well as those throughout the metropolitan area.
The Village of La Grange encompasses 2.5 square miles and is predominantly a residential community with a strong Central Business District and two small industrial areas which serve as the headquarters for a number of light manufacturing establishments. La Grange’s downtown Central Business District encompasses approximately 500,000 square feet of commercial floor space, with a low vacancy rate.
La Grange provides more than 1,000 on-street and off-street public parking spaces, which serve the shopper as well as the commuter. Small businesses provide friendly, personalized service and quality merchandise.
Lake Michigan water is supplied by the City of Chicago via the Village of McCook. Sanitary sewer treatment services are provided by the Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago.
Homes are predominantly single-family, with the median home value estimated to be in the neighborhood of $170,000. Homes within the Village are well preserved and maintain their architectural and historic significance through sensitive restoration. Two Historic Districts are located within La Grange.
La Grange is served by an excellent educational system anchored by Lyons Township High School, with an enrollment of 2,800 students. Six elementary and two junior high schools serve over 2,500 students. The nearby Collage of DuPage offers a wide variety of technical and professional courses.
The community serves as the home for La Grange Memorial Hospital. The 270-bed hospital is a level II Trauma Center. In addition, there are 19 churches representing 16 denominations.
Recreation facilities and activities for Village residents are provided by the Park District of La Grange, a separate unit of government. The District operates 11 parks, covering 69 acres.
