Building Permit Information
The Community Development Department will be closed on Wednesday, May 10th from 1:00 pm until 5:00 pm for training to prepare for our transition to online permitting June 1st.
Hours
The Village Hall is open to the public from 8:30 a.m to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. People may also contact the Community Development Department by phone during these times at (708)579-2300 ext.1. We also encourage you to make contact via email at any time at permits@lagrangeil.gov.
Remote Service Options
Permit Applications by Email
Most permit applications can be accepted via email at permits@lagrangeil.gov. Staff will contact you if additional paper submittals are required.
Lobby Drop Box
There is a drop box located in the vestibule of the northeast accessible entrance to the Village Hall. The drop box is provided for you to leave your permit applications, plans, and payments. If you have questions related to the submittal that you are leaving you may call 708-579-2320 or email permits@lagrangeil.gov.
Remote Payment Options
Payments may be mailed or left in the drop box as detailed above. The Community Development Department will also continue to process payments for contractor registrations and small permit fees over the phone at 708-579-2320.
Inspections
Building inspections are held Mon-Fri between 8-Noon. Plumbing inspections are held Mon-Thu from 4-6pm. An inspection must be scheduled by Noon the day prior to the requested inspection. Inspections not cancelled by 4pm the business day prior to the inspection may incur a re-inspection fee of $50. Please see the pdf below for detailed inspection protocols. Inspection requests can continue to be submitted via email at inspections@lagrangeil.gov.
Issuance of Permits
The Community Development Department issues building permits for all matters concerning the erection, construction, alteration, addition, removal, and demolition of buildings and structures.
Code Compliance
The Department protects structure and property standards through the enforcement of building, electrical, and plumbing codes, as well as the Zoning Ordinance of the Village of La Grange. All construction and remodeling, including fences, swimming pools, and accessory buildings are inspected for compliance with minimum code requirement.
