Snow Removal

Snow & Ice Control

During the winter months, the Department of Public Works is responsible for snow and ice control on roadways, parking lots, and sidewalks within the Central Business District.

The main roadways are cleared first. These include the following State Routes:

  • La Grange Road
  • Ogden Avenue
  • 47th Street

After the main roadways are clear, Public Works then addresses the side streets and parking lots.

When On-Street Parking is Prohibited

To assist the department with snow plowing operations, please be aware that on-street parking is prohibited when snowfall exceeds two or more inches. Section 72.25 of the Village Code states:
It shall be unlawful to park any vehicle, before removal of snow, on any public street in the Village at any time within twelve (12) hours after a snowfall of two (2) inches or more has occurred. (Ordinance 0-01-18 passed 5-14-01).

Garbage Service / Trash Cans

The private waste hauler for the Village will normally pick up garbage during snow events. However, please be sure to place your trash can away from the curb while snow plowing is occurring to prevent the garbage can from accidentally being tipped over.

Help Us by Clearing Your Sidewalks

Also, the department requests that residents clear public sidewalks adjacent to their property.

If you have a concern during a winter storm event, please email the Public Works Department.
